Ubuntu Ambiance / Radiance Themes Are Now Borderless [Ubuntu 11.04] (Updated x2)

Remember Borderless Elementary? It was quite a success and I'm not sure if that's where the Ubuntu devs got the idea from, but an update today in Ubuntu 11.04 removes the borders for the Ubuntu "Light" themes: Ambiance and Radiance, writes Neil Patel on his blog.

Maverick Sound Indicator Finally Gets Controls That Match The Radiance Theme

The Sound Indicator in Maverick got a nice (although buggy) rounded corners artwork as well as the mouse-wheel to change the volume function back a few days ago and an update today finally brings new player controls (through the Ubuntu-Mono icons package) for the Radiance theme, which you can preview in the screenshots below:

"Fix" The Gnome Panel For Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Ambiance And Radiance Themes

If you ever tried this, you must know that using Ambiance or Radiance with no tweaking makes it impossible to have a vertical, transparent or larger (in height) panel. Back in May we had a post on fixing the Gnome Panel for most themes, including the Ubuntu Ambiance and Radiance themes.

But unfortunately the tweak in that post no longer works for the new Ambiance and Radiance themes from Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (also available in our PPA for Lucid). Here is a new way of fixing Ambiance and Radiance (actually it's still the old way, but a new file).

Install An Updated Light-Themes Version In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (Bonus: Extra Equinox Themes) [PPA]

There is currently a lot of work going on to improve the Ubuntu light themes: Ambiance and Radiance. Unfortunately all these changes are not even available in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

But if you want to install the Ubuntu latest light themes, I've created a PPA with packages for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Read on!

Fix Transparent, Vertical And Large Gnome Panel In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (For The Ambiance And Radiance Themes)

The new light themes in Ubuntu 10.04 don't like you changing the GNOME panel in any way. If you increase the panel size, want a vertical panel or try to make a panel transparent, it looks very ugly:

(large Gnome panel height)

(vertical Gnome panel)

(transparent Gnome panel)

You can fix this by using another theme, or fix the Ambiance and Radiance themes. Here is how to fix Ambiance and Radiance.

Ambiance And Radiance Themes No Longer Need Special Fixing After Today's Update [Ubuntu]

The Ubuntu light-themes: Ambiance and Radiance got an update today which finally fixes the border around the Metacity buttons, meaning you can now place them in any order without the need to edit the theme in GIMP to fix the border around the maximize button. Well, sort of, meaning the active window buttons were fixed for both Ambiance and Radiance, but the inactive window buttons still need a bit of fixing:
