Seif has released Gedit Dash 0.1, a plugin for Gedit that uses Zeitgeist to display recently or most used items in new Gedit tabs. You can search both recently and most used items and also, the plugin generates previews which "try to jump directly to some code or text from your work".

Rhythmbox Pandora is a plugin which allows you to listen to Pandora, add and remove radio stations and love, ban, tired or bookmark songs. It has all the features Pithos has (except last.fm scrobbling) and it actually makes use of Pithos to integrate Pandora into Rhythmbox, but the recent versions don't require you install Pithos to use the Rhythmbox Pandora plugin.

The Pandora Rhythmbox plugin has been updated recently and it finally works with the latest Rhythmbox 0.13.3+ (available in Ubuntu 11.04, etc.).

The Rhythmbox Pandora plugin we were telling you about a while back was officially fixed yesterday and the official package now works with Rhythmbox 0.13.2. Further more, even though the plugin still uses some Pithos code, you no longer have to install Pithos to use it.

Pandora radio is a personalized internet radio service that helps you find new music based on your old and current favorites. You can create custom web radio stations and listen free - available only in the US.


I've recently came across a Pandora plugin for Rhythmbox that uses Pithos for accessing Pandora. While Pithos must be installed for the plugin to work, you don't have to run Pithos to use the Pandora Rhythmbox plugin.

The original plugin doesn't work with the latest Rhythmbox 0.13.2 and the author is currently traveling so he  can't fix it until February so I decided to try and fix it myself, even though I don't know Python and luckily I was able to get it to work with Rhythmbox 0.13.2. However, I'm not sure if it still works with older Rhythmbox versions, so if my fixed plugin doesn't work, try the original plugin.

Features and usage

The Pandora Rhythmbox plugin comes with the same features as Pithos: you can create or delete stations, love, ban, tired songs and so on.

Compiz 0.8.x has some very cool plugins which are marked as "experimental" and thus are not available in the Ubuntu repositories. Johnnyg posted instructions about installing these plugins @ Gnome Look - I gave it a try and everything seems to be working (though I've only tested 3-4 plugins so far).

Advanced Find / Replace is a plugin for Gedit (both 2 and 3) for easily search and replace in multiple documents. It currently works with all opened documents and all the files in a directory you select.

RB SyncLastFM is a Rhythmbox plugin which provides some Last.fm synchronization features:
  • It automatically downloads the Last.fm play count for your username and associates it with your Rhythmbox play count for each track - this isn't done for all the tracks at once but only when you play a track.
  • If a track is locally unrated, it will fill its rating field with 5 stars if you've previously loved that track on Last.fm.

Zedtux, who also maintains a PPA for the Rhythmbox FolderView plugin we wrote about last week, sent us a tip about a new PPA he maintains for the Rhythmbox Album Art Search plugin.

The Album Art Search plugin for Rhythmbox automatically searches the web for album covers of each song you play. Rhythmbox can already fetch album art, but using this plugin you can choose which image to use and also it allows you to make an advanced search to find a better images. Once you've set an image as an album cover using this plugin, the image will be stored in ~/.cache/rhythmbox/covers
