Update Microsoft Security Essentials Without Windows Update

MSE Update Utility

Microsoft Security Essentials is a relatively new anti-virus and anti-malware program from Microsoft that is lightweight and absolutely free as long as you are running a genuine copy of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 on your computers.

Microsoft Security Essentials downloads the new virus definition updates through Windows Update but many people turn that off. Doing so, you will be needing to update your Microsoft Security Essentials virus definitions in another way. Here is how: use MSE Update Utility, an application which automatically updates Microsoft Security Essentials even if you have Windows Update turned off.

You can choose to either always run MSE Update Utility in the baground so it automatically downloads new virus definitions when updates are available, or manually run it whenever you want.

After the launch of Windows 7 complete, Microsoft is finally focusing its attention on Internet Explorer 9, having huge pressure from Firefox and Google's Chrome browsers.

Microsoft has revealed the first details of Internet Explorer 9 at the Microsoft Professional Developer’s Conference in Los Angeles, according to Mashable.

The new browser has only been in development for three weeks, but it seems like IE9 will have some standard improvements. The browser is a long way away from its release so there’s no telling what it will be able to do and whether it can match Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.

Linux represents 32% of netbook sales in 2009, according to ABI Research, higher that the 7% figure that Microsoft has claimed. By 2013, ABI Research estimates that Linux will overtake Windows on netbooks, largely due to sales in less-developed countries. Looking forward for that happening!

From the 35 million netbooks that will be shiped by the manufacturers this years, around 11 million netbooks will be used with a Linux-based operating system. The rest belongs to Microsoft Windows, since Apple hasn't yet released a netbook.

Amongst the most popular choice on Linux netbooks is Ubuntu.

Google To Integrate Twitter Search Too

Just a few hours after Twitter announced it would be integrated into Microsoft Bing search, Google also announced it will include Twitter status updates into it's search engine.

At Google, our goal is to create the most comprehensive, relevant and fast search in the world. In the past few years, an entirely new type of data has emerged — real-time updates like those on Twitter have appeared not only as a way for people to communicate their thoughts and feelings, but also as an interesting source of data about what is happening right now in regard to a particular topic.

Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you'll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.

The New Freeware Anti-Virus From Microsoft: Security Essentials

Security Essentials

Security Essentials is a new anti-virus and anti-malware program from Microsoft that is lightweight and absolutely free as long as you are running a genuine copy of Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 on your computers.

Microsoft warns that MSE should not be installed alongside any other antimalware application. Indeed, MSE's installer disables Windows Defender completely, which makes sense as it is a sort of superset to Windows Defender. It builds upon Windows Defender by offering both real-time protection and on-demand scanning for all types of malware.

Microsoft To Bring Silverlight To Moblin Linux

Microsoft has announced plans to bring its Silverlight technology to Moblin Linux. This is the first time the company has mentioned anything about Silverlight running on any Linux distribution. Up until now the only way to access Silverlight content including web video and interactive web media on a Linux system was to use Moonlight, an open-source implementation of Silverlight developed by Novell and Microsoft.
