Blogger Finally Allows Users To Create Pages

Blogger users were only able to create posts, not pages. That's until today, because Blogger in Draft finally allows Blogger users to create pages.

To create a page for your Blogger Blog, log in to Blogger in Draft, go to Posting > Edit Pages > New Page. After creating your page, when you click the "Publish" button, you'll have an option to create a widget to display a link for this page, or you can link it manually:

Fix Post Duplicates In Related Posts Widgets For Blogger

I haven't posted about Blogger in a while, but there was a certain bug in almost all the "related posts" widgets for Blogger I know, and today I finally decided to fix it for Web Upd8 and hopefully, this will also help other Blogger blogs out there.

Google Analytics Public Visitors HTML Counter For Any Website With Sharega (Free)

A while back, we covered how to display some Google Analytics stats on your website, using PHP and the Google Analytics API.

But here is a much simple way of doing this, but for visitor stats only: by using Sharega, a web service which will display a visitors counter on your website, no matter the platform you use because it will allow you to simply enter some HTML code as your counter.

To use Sharega, all you have to do is add it's email address to your Google Analytics users, with 'view stats only' account access, then on the Sharega website enter your website url and finally, add a piece of code to your website.

gURLChecker Tests Links On A Website

gURLChecker is a graphical web sites checker for GNU/Linux. It can work on a whole site, a single local page or a browser bookmarks file.

There's not much to say about this application, it basically just checks for bad links on a given website:

gurlchecker

To install it in Ubuntu, run this command:
sudo apt-get install gurlchecker

After installing it, you can find it under Applications > Internet.

For other Linux distributions, download gURLChecker from HERE.

Display Google Analytics Stats On Your Website [Public Stats]

We use GAPI (gapi-google-analytics-php-interface) to display Google Analytics page views and visits to everyone, without requiring a password - it's all done by using the Google Analytics API.

To make some Google Analytics stats public, you need a PHP5 web host but it you don't have one, there are lots of free alternatives out there and you can then embed the stats using in iframe (very easy).

I have modified the example report which comes with GAPI to display the month, year, number of page views, visits and so on, and sort it by year and then month. It basically looks like this:

google analitycs public stats.

You can view a demo right here, on Web Upd8. As you can see, Google Analytics public stats can be easily integrated into Blogger too (I saw lots of requests of using this in Blogger blogs).

Reducisaurus is a web service for minifying and serving CSS and JS files, based on Yahoo! YUI Compressor. Sure, there are lots of way of minifying javascript and CSS, but Reducisaurus is probably the easiest to use.

In case you don't know:

Minification is the practice of removing unnecessary characters from code to reduce its size thereby improving load times. When code is minified all comments are removed, as well as unneeded white space characters (space, newline, and tab).

Google Launches Browser Size - Tool To See How Others View Your Website

google browser size

Just like in a newspaper (where the most important story is featured on the front page, "above the fold"), your website has different "importance" areas which depend on monitor sizes, browsers, toolbars and so on.

This is why Google has launched Browser Size, a tool which can help you see how users view your website. Browser Size is based on a sample of data from visitors to google.com. Special code collects data on the height and width of the browser for a sample of users. For a given point in the browser, the tool will tell you what percentage of users can see it. For example, if an important button is in the 80% region it means that 20% of users have to scroll in order to see it.
