Video Editor `OpenShot` 2.0.7 (Beta 4) Released, Adds Universal Linux AppImage Downloads

OpenShot is a free and open source video editor for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

With version 2.0, which was born as a result of a successful Kickstarter campaign, OpenShot uses a new cross-platform engine written in C++, while the app uses PyQt5. Also, while version 1.x is Linux only, with version 2.0, the application is also available for Windows and Mac OS X.

The latest OpenShot 2.0.7 (beta 4) brings improved stability and performance, as well as new features, such as support for image sequences.

OpenShot 1.3.0 comes with a new user interface called "Fresh" and finally adds something many of you have requested: stock icons support. The new version also lets you easily upload videos to YouTube or Vimeo:

OpenShot is a non-linear video editor for Linux (GNOME) with an amazing set of features: you can resize, trim or cut video, it comes with video transitions with real-time previews, image overlays, title templates, video encoding, digital zooming, audio mixing and editing, digital video effects and well, most of the features you can think of.

OpenShot has been teasing us with the new features for a long time now and today, the new OpenShot 1.2.2 was finally released (1.2.0 and 1.2.1 were actually skipped). This version comes with 3D animated titles powered by Blender 2.5, custom transitions, new audio and video effects, DVD export, netbook friendly theme and lots of other improvements. OpenShot Video Editor 1.1 Released!

OpenShot 1.1 (non-linear video editor) was released yesterday and it addresses 40 bugs and features.

The most requested feature was probably the "Undo / Redo" support which has finally been included in OpenShot.

OpenShot Video Editor 1.0 has been released today. The new version comes with lots of new features and improvements:

28 new transitions
Transitions now snap to the nearest clip or the play-head
Improved stability and accuracy
29 new titles have been added (both in 4:3 and 16:9 ratios)
Two new themes: a simple theme with smaller icons for small screens and flat blue theme - a theme with no glass or gloss.

Here is what you can do: go to THIS Launchpad bug and click the green link that says "Does this bug affect you?":

and select "Yes, it affects me".

OpenShot Help Manual Released (English And French)

The OpenShot developers have announced the immediate availability of the OpenShot Help Manual in English and French (links to the online manual).

The manual contains 100 topics and illustrations and if you though OpenShot was hard to use, now you can finally learn how to use it in 5 minutes (there is a chapter called "Learn how to use OpenShot in 5 minutes) so go ahead and read it so you can create amazing movies out of your holidays videos with one of the best open-source non-linear video editors out there: OpenShot.

OpenShot 0.9.54 Released!

Openshot, the great Linux non-linear video editor was updated to version 0.9.54.

New in version 0.9.54:

Snap to Play-Head: the snapping tool has been improved to also snap to the play-head.
Auto-Extending Timeline: you can now drag or resize any clip past the end of the timeline, and it will simply extend the timeline.
Improved Zoom: zooming now adjusts your scrollbars to keep your clips in view.
Translations updated: All 7 of our default language translations have been updated to the newest text from LaunchPad. Also, you can use any of the additional 40+ languages. Just drop the .mo file in the /openshot/locale/ folder.

New OpenShot Version Out, Brings 33 New Video & Audio Effects

Openshot, the great new Linux non-linear video editor (which we covered here, at Web Upd8 a while ago) released a new version, 0.9.42, which includes 33 video & audio effects (30 video and 3 audio) and a preview window ehich allows you to view any changes before applying.

Also, a new PPA for Ubuntu users has been set up starting today. To add it, run the following commands in a terminal:

A while ago I was telling you about a new Linux non-linear video editor with some great features, called OpenShot. At the time of that post, you needed to compile OpenShot to be able to use it, but now you can download the latest version, 0.9.22 (Developer Preview) in Ubuntu .deb packages.

OpenShot Is A Great Linux Non-Linear Video Editor

I'll start with a quote from the author:

"I have a simple mission: To create an open-source, non-linear video editor for Linux. Many have tried and fallen before me, but for some reason I feel compelled to try myself. I am documenting my journey in this blog for all to read. It will be a dangerous journey, and I might not make it back alive. Hold on tight, and enjoy the ride! By the way, I'm calling this project OpenShot Video Editor!"

OpenShot has too many great features to list them all here but here are a few of them:

OpenShot Video Editor has not released an "official" version yet and is still under development. But that doesn't mean you can't install it. If you are interested in installing OpenShot (and don't mind a few bugs), download the Build Wizard: https://launchpad.net/openshot/+download.

1) Extract to a folder named ~/openshot_wizard/
2) Open a terminal window
3) $ cd ~/openshot_wizard/
4) $ python install.py

Follow the on-screen instructions... and that's it! The Build Wizard should install an icon on your desktop, and an icon in your Applications > Sound & Video main menu.
