Gloobus Preview is a quick file previewer which supports images, documents (pdf, odf, ods, etc.), source files, audio (mp3, wav, ogg and more), video (avi, ogg, mkv, flv, etc.), folders, archives, fonts, plain text files and more.

Gloobus Preview

The tool stopped working with recent Ubuntu versions but thanks to György Balló, you can now use Gloobus Preview in Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 (and obviously, other Linux distributions). Update: the PPA now also supports Ubuntu 16.04 and 15.10.

György has fixed various bugs and ported the application to use the latest technologies, along with some new features:

Since Nautilus Elementary 2.32.2 has just been uploaded to the PPA for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, I had to write a new post about installing it as well as some extra goodies.

Nautilus Elementary 2.32.2 comes with all the features the previous version had (but no new features) as well as many bug fixes. Also, the search is not using Zeitgeist anymore.

Just a quick update: if you want all the changes in the new Gloobus Preview we were telling you about a few days ago, you can now install it via Gloobus PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gloobus-dev/gloobus-preview
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install gloobus-preview

If you have Nautilus Elementary PPA added, you can also install Gloobus Preview from that PPA!

Gloobus Preview Gets Slideshow Support, Font Installation And More [BZR]

Gloobus Preview is a "Quicklook" application for Linux which you can use to preview many kinds of file types - from images to fonts, music, documents and so on.

There haven't been a new Gloobus Preview version in quite a while but the application got some nice features since the last stable version (in BZR): Gloobus Preview can now install fonts, set an image as the wallpaper, uses a new fancy new look for previewing fonts and it can use your GTK theme instead of the default theme Gloobus Preview comes with.

Also, Gloobus Preview can now display slideshows. Simply open an image using Gloobus Preview and press "s".

Update: Gloobus Preview PPA For Ubuntu 10.04

This is just a small update: there are now Lucid packages available in the Gloobus Preview PPA. The post on Gloobus Preview for Ubuntu 10.04 has been updated.

How To Install Gloobus Preview In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx [PPA Now Available]

gloobus

Gloobus Preview is a Gnome application based on Apple’s “Quicklook”, designed to enable a full screen preview of any kind of file. Gloobus currently supports the following files:

Images: jpeg / png / icns / bmp / svg / gif / psd / xcf
Documents: pdf / cbr / cbz / doc / xls / odf / ods / odp / ppt
Source: c++ / c# / java / javascript / php / xml / log / sh / python
Audio: mp3 / ogg / midi / 3gp / wav
Video: mpg /avi / ogg / 3gp / mkv / flv
Other: folders / ttf / srt / plain-text

I didn't try all the extensions mentioned above, however I did try a GIMP .xcf file and for some reason it didn't work. But it did work for images, avi, flv, folders, mp3, archive and so on.
