Mozilla Releases Weave Sync 1.0

mozilla weave 1.0

Mozilla has finally released Weave 1.0, the Firefox extension that provides Firefox user data synchronization which includes complete syncing of bookmarks, passwords, preferences, history, and even open tabs on multiple computers (or multiple operating systems) and even mobile devices.

Mozilla Weave Sync 1.0 RC Released

Mozilla Weave Sync lets you synchronize your browser (including Fennec) across multiple computers. Also, it is likely that Firefox 3.6 or 3.7 will integrate Weave Sync by default.

Mozilla Weave Sync 1.0 release candidate is now available for download, and among the improvements are:
  • Faster startup times for Firefox and Fennec
  • Make tabs available immediately when setting up another computer
  • Automatically use the synced lightweight theme (Firefox 3.6+)
  • Better integration with Fennec UX
  • Avoid triggering master password prompt on launching Firefox

Mozilla Weave 1.0 Beta 1 Released, Adds Incremental Sync

The first Beta of Weave Sync add-on is now available, and includes major changes such as:

  • incremental sync behavior - Your data will be synchronized in chunks to improve performance. Among other things, it ensures that you can continue to use Firefox normally even when you are syncing hundreds of bookmarks in the background.
  • Faster – using heuristics, Weave Sync computes an interestingness score to get you the most relevant data first. We have more details below.
  • Simpler – a user interface that allows regular users to get up and running in a matter of minutes, while being flexible to accommodate advanced users.
  • Unobtrusive – once it has been setup, Weave Sync works mostly in the background and when your computer is idle, without interrupting your regular Firefox experience.

Synchronize Your Notes Between Multiple Computers With QuickFox Notes Firefox Add-on

notes firefox addonQuickFox Notes is a Firefox add-on for taking notes but with a little extra. This multi-tab note taking extension saves the notes data as bookmarks which means you can synchronize these notes (since they are bookmarks) with add-ons such as Xmarks or Mozilla Weave. Another interesting feature is that QuickFox Notes supports most Notepad++ short-cut keys.

For more info and how to use this Firefox extension, visit it's webpage.

If you don't like this add-on, another way to synchronize your notes in Firefox would be to use any other note taking add-on such as Tomfox, QuickNote, etc. and instead of syncing your bookmarks, notes, you can use Dropbox to sync your whole Firefox profile folder.

Mozilla Labs Weave Sync Addon Updated to Version 0.4.0

weave syncWeave Sync is a prototype Firefox extenstion by Mozilla Labs that encrypts and securely synchronizes the Firefox experience across multiple browsers, so that your desktop, laptop, and mobile phone can all work together.

Weave Sync currently supports continuous synchronization of your bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords and tabs:

* Get the same results on the Smart Location Bar on each of your Firefox browsers, so you can get to your favorite sites with just a few keystrokes
* Continue what you were doing: have the ability to open any tab you have open on any of your Firefox browsers
* Keep the same list of bookmarks on all of your Firefox browsers
* Easily sign in to all your favorite sites using your saved passwords (this is especially handy on mobile phones, where it’s hard to type in complex passwords)
* Do it all securely: Weave Sync encrypts user data before uploading it to Mozilla’s servers, so that only you can access your data

New in version 0.4.0:
  • Improved start-up and new window performance
  • Preference syncing (including Personas)
  • Identity Support: Auto-login (including OpenID)
  • Better support for add-ons using Weave
  • Support for current versions of Fennec for Maemo devices

Weave, Firefox Browsers Sync Now Supports Mobile Browser Too

mozilla weave logoToday, Mozilla Labs released the 0.3 version of Weave, its project that syncs multiple browsers in the cloud. Weave lets users sync their bookmarks, tabs, passwords, and histories in the cloud across Firefox browsers on different computers. With today’s release, you can also sync with Fennec, Firefox’s mobile browser, which unfortunately right now only works on one kind of phone: a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. Yeah, I don’t have one of those either.

But the idea of syncing your browsers is a powerful one for anyone who uses more than one computing device on a regular basis. Originally launched in December, 2007, Weave is now faster and more reliable. In other words, now it actually works (or so I’m told).

The one thing Weave doesn’t sync is all of your add-ons. But that is planned for a future release.
