Display Keystrokes In Your Screencasts With `Screenkey` (Fork)

Screenkey is a tool which displays your keystrokes on the screen, useful for screencasts (especially for how-to videos).

Screenkey

The original Screenkey was abandoned but thanks to Yuri D'Elia, the application lives on, through a fork that's an almost complete rewrite of screenkey 0.2 (the last version released by the original developer), which includes quite a few improvements and new features, such as:

Screencasting App `Simple Screen Recorder` 0.3.0 Adds Profile Support, New OpenGL Recording System And Lots More

Simple Screen Recorder (SSR), a Qt desktop recorder for Linux, was updated to version 0.3.0 today, bringing profile support, a new, more flexible OpenGL recording system, native support for mono microphones and other interesting changes.

The tool comes with basically all the features you need in a screencast app: record the entire screen (with multi-monitor support), record a fixed rectangle, follow the cursor, record OpenGL applications (which can be used to record games), record audio input (PulseAudio, JACK and ALSA), options to scale the video, to record (or not) the cursor, to pause/resume the recording and so on. It even has experimental live streaming support.

Kazam Screencaster 1.3.2 Gets New UI, Screenshots Support

A new Kazam Screencaster version has been released today, which brings a complete UI overhaul, support for taking screenshots and other new features.

Kazam is a screen recording tool - or better said, it was, because with the latest 1.3.2 version, it's not just for screencasts and it can be used to take screenshots as well: fullscreen (current monitor), all screens, window or area.

The new version also brings a new user interface which lets you easily switch between the screencast and screenshot mode:

Kazam Screencaster 1.0 Released

Kazam Screencaster 1.0, a cool screencasting application for Linux, has been released today.

The Kazam Screencaster development has stopped a while back, but luckily a new developer has taken over the project and Kazam is updated frequently again. With the new 1.0 version, Kazam is finally GTK3 ready, but that's not all. Here are the changes since the previous Kazam version we wrote about (a long time ago, I know):

Try Kazam, A New Screencasting Application For Linux

Kazam

I couldn't wait to write about Kazam Screencaster which I've tried almost daily since it's pre-alpha release but unfortunately it didn't work. However, a fix for Ubuntu Lucid was released two days ago and today the Maverick bug (unable to record video - which was crucial, considering this is what Kazam is built for) was also fixed (the bug was actually in FFmpeg) so Kazam Screencaster should finally work for everybody!

Kazam is a brand new screencasting application for Linux which records both the audio and video in an .mkv format and you can either save it to your computer or directly upload it to YouTube or VideoBin (more websites are expected to be added soon).

Besides the very good video quality, Kazam also looks great! It comes with an AppIndicator and a NotifyOSD-like notification bubble - both of which display a counter when you start the recording:

Clip2Net: Fastest Way To Take, Edit And Upload Screenshots [Windows, Linux, MacOS X]

clip2net

Clip2Net is a project currently in open beta-testing which you can use for easily recording screencasts / taking screenshots on your computer and then upload them to Click2Net server for easy sharing.

Clip2Net works on Windows, Linux and MacOS X, however it seems the video screencast feature is currently missing from the Linux build - but it's understandable since it's in beta-testing for now.

What's nice about Clip2Net is the speed: it's very fast and easy to take a screenshot, optionally edit it (crop, annotate, insert some arrow shapes and so on) and then upload it to Clip2Net.
