Install Unity Reddit Lens In Ubuntu [.deb]

Unity Reddit Lens

A Reddit user has created a cool Unity Lens for Reddit (a website where you can find what's new and popular on the web with a very active Linux section). By default it displays /r/linux, /r/ubuntu, /r/iama and of course, the main stories.

The search field for the Unity Reddit Lens is basically a filter for Reddit categories so if for instance you want to see the top stories in the /r/technology category, search for "technology":

BaconBits: New BitTorrent Tracker For Reddit Users Only

baconbitsReddit is one of the best resources for finding new and interesting content and sometimes even more. Speaking about this "even more", there is now a new tracker called BaconBits created by a Reddit user, which can only be used by Reddit users who have at least 100 comment karma and have signed up for at least 3 months.

The interesting part about this private BitTorrent tracker is that there is no minimum ratio. You will, however get a "warn" if your ratio drops below 0.2.

Track Conversations with ConvoTrack

ConvoTrack is a tool thatuses the BackType API and enables you to see what's being said about a keywoard / website on many services, from a browser tab or sidebar. Here is an example:

ConvoTrack

To views conversations about a certain url, simply add it after . For example:
http://convotrack.com/http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/04/09/convotrack-a-simple-and-useful-conversation-tracker-built-on-top-of-backtype/

(I couldn't use a link from our website because we redirect all frame trafic back to the website).

This will display relevant search results, references and links from sites like Twitter, FriendFeed, HackerNews, Digg, Reddit, and even blog comments.

ConvoTrack also comes with a handy bookmarklet that you can drag to your browser toolbar. When you’re reading an interesting article, you can instantly view what’s being said about it across social media sites by clicking the bookmarklet, and share the link with others while you’re at it. Remember: all this without having to leave the website where the article was published. Finally, a small embeddable script allows website owners to place a button on their site, enabling visitors to access the conversation on the social web in just one click.
