Shotcut video editor is available as a snap (64bit only!), making it easier to install in multiple Linux distributions, including Ubuntu, Fedora, and so on.

Shotcut is a free, open source Qt5 video editor developed on the MLT Multimedia Framework (it's developed by the same author as MLT), available for Linux, Windows and Mac. Under the hood, Shotcut uses FFmpeg, so it supports many audio, video and image formats, along with screen, webcam and audio capture.

OpenShot is a free and open source video editor for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

With version 2.0, which was born as a result of a successful Kickstarter campaign, OpenShot uses a new cross-platform engine written in C++, while the app uses PyQt5. Also, while version 1.x is Linux only, with version 2.0, the application is also available for Windows and Mac OS X.

The latest OpenShot 2.0.7 (beta 4) brings improved stability and performance, as well as new features, such as support for image sequences.

After being in beta for almost a year, Lightworks, a professional video editing and mastering software, has reached version 11.5 stable, this being the first Lightworks release for Linux. The new version is of course also available for Windows.

The application was used in some renowned Oscar and Emmy Award award-winning films, including The King's Speech, Martin Scorsese's Hugo and The Departed, Mission Impossible, Pulp Fiction, Braveheart and Batman.

Flowblade is a multitrack non-linear video editor for Linux designed to "provide a fast, precise and as-simple-as-possible editing experience". The application can be used to join or cut videos, create movies from video clips, audio clips and images, add filters and more.

Because Flowblade uses a "film style" editing paradigm (clips are placed tightly after the previous clip automatically, or between two existing clips) like Avid Media Composer or Final Cut X, it will feel very different for those who have previously used other video editing applications such as OpenShot or Kdenlive for instance.

Auteur is a new non-linear video editor for Linux. The application is currently in alpha but seems to advance pretty fast, with 6 releases in just one week (the first alpha preview release was published on 31 January 2011).

The application "focuses on what's important to an editor: cutting footage, reliably, rather than attempting fancy effects you won't use anyway" says the Auteur developer.

VLMC crashed a lot until today when I was finally able to edit a video and upload it to YouTube (but YouTube failed to convert it) through VLMC so I though this would be a good time to post about it on WebUpd8. The PPA will be updated daily from the VLMC git using a small script I've created.
