Nautilus Terminal 1.0 Released With Support For Nautilus 3.x (Terminal Embedded Into Nautilus)

Nautilus Terminal

Nautilus Terminal - a Nautilus extension that embeds the terminal into the Nautilus window -, finally works with Nautilus 3. This is actually a full rewrite of the original Nautilus Terminal, for Nautilus 3.x.

CLI Companion Reaches Version 1.0 RC2

Cli companion

CLI Companion is a tool aimed at making the terminal easier to use: it's a GUI that displays a list of commands and an embedded terminal under it. The application comes with a list of commonly used commands by default, each having a short description and if you want to find out more about a certain command, simply right click it and select "Help". This will display the "man" (manual) for the selected command. But CLI Companion can help advanced users too as you can use it to store long commands which you can then easily find using the search feature.

Video: Nautilus Elementary With ClutterFlow, Embedded Terminal In Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat

For those who haven't upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat yet or simply never tried Nautilus Elementary, I though I'd create a video showing off the new features such as ClutterFlow (well, that's not new, it was also implemented in Nautilus Elementary for Ubuntu 9.10 but it was missing in Ubuntu 10.04), Embedded Terminal (with a GUI to configure it) and so on:

For installation instructions, see the previous post (ClutterFlow and Embedded Terminal are only available in Ubuntu 10.10!): Nautilus Elementary PPA Update Brings NE-Terminal-Config, Copy/Paste For The Terminal

Nautilus Elementary PPA Update Brings NE-Terminal-Config, Copy/Paste For The Terminal

NE Terminal Config

A tool to configure the Nautilus Elementary (NE-Terminal-Config) terminal was released last week but it was only working with Nautilus Elementary from BZR. But the Nautilus Elementary PPA has been updated today now only works with NE-Terminal-Config, but it also integrates it with Nautilus Elementary: to configure the terminal, simply right click it and select the configuration option.

NE Terminal Config: Configure The Nautilus Elementary Embedded Terminal

NE Terminal Config

NE Terminal Config is an utility to configure the Nautilus Elementary embedded terminal (which is only available for Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat), developed by FLOZz.

To avoid the confusion: Nautilus Terminal (which is also developed by FLOZz) is a Nautilus extension to get an embedded terminal into Nautilus which works with any Nautilus version. However, NE Terminal Config is an utility for configuring the embedded terminal feature in Nautilus Elementary, not the Nautilus Terminal extension.

NE Terminal Config allows you to change the colors, font, default terminal height, hide/show the scrollbar and so on.

Ubuntu 10.10 Nautilus Elementary PPA Updated, Comes With ClutterView, Embedded Terminal By Default

Nautilus Elementary Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat

The Nautilus Elementary version in the PPA was too old so you couldn't install it in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. Those who wanted to use Nautilus Elementary had to manually download .deb files or compile it themselves.

But the PPA has just been updated today and Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat users can finally install Nautilus Elementary from the PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:am-monkeyd/nautilus-elementary-ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
nautilus -q

So what's new in the latest Nautilus Elementary package in the PPA?

The embedded terminal I was telling you about yesterday (enable it using the "F7" key):

Nautilus Elementary Gets An Embedded Terminal Of Its Own

Nautilus Elementary Embedded Terminal

The Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat Nautilus Elementary branch just got an embedded terminal of it's own (eterm).

So what's different from the Nautilus Terminal extension we posted a few days ago? Well, in Nautilus Elementary you can completely disable it - something you can't do in Nautilus Terminal (there is still a visible toolbar once you turn it off).
