VideoLAN Media Player (VLC) 1.1 feature freeze took place on February 5th and a recent message on the VLC development mailing list points out that VLC 1.1.0 will be released soon. Another interesting thing is that VLC 1.0.x might not be supported anymore once 1.1 is out:

I could rant on the reasons why (I believe) there will be no support for VLC 1.0.x once VLC 1.1 is out. Instead, I will just remind packagers that I would appreciate their feedback on VLC 1.1.x quickly. I don't need to mention that I'd rather have it _before_ VLC 1.1.0 ships.

Don't forget that you can already install a GIT version of VLC 1.1.0 in Ubuntu, from WebUpd8 PPA.
