Foobnix Music Player Gets New Ubuntu PPA

A quick update for our Ubuntu readers using Foobnix: the player has a new PPA, so remove the old one and add ppa:foobnix-team/foobnix-player instead.

Foobnix music player

For those not familiar with Foobnix, this is a very interesting music player available for Linux, Windows, Mac OSX and even Android that comes with a clean design and can play formats ranging from mp3, mp4, aac, audio CDs, wma to FLAC, WavPack (WV), Musepack, CUE and many others (and can convert between audio formats). Among its features are:

Foobnix 0.2.3 Comes With UI Changes, Many Bug Fixes

Foobnix 0.2.3

Foobnix (click HERE for our initial Foobnix review) 0.2.3 has been released today, fixing a lot of the bugs in the previous versions, including some which caused display errors with most GTK themes. But that's not all that's new in the latest Foobnix 0.2.3 - changes in the latest version include:
  • Music folders in one or multiple tabs
  • Compact pull-down menu, the ability to display the menu as a panel
  • Improved CUE support
  • Customizable user themes (these are more like personas) - you can basically add any wallpaper / image as a background for Foobnix
  • Transparency of the main window
  • The tabs are now saved and restored when you start Foobnix
  • Actions on tabs (close, open, rename)
  • Improved performance and better startup speed
  • Many bugs fixed

Foobnix 0.2.2 Comes With Lots Of Changes, Ubuntu PPA

Foobnix

Foobnix, a very interesting music player we wrote about a while back (check out that post for a complete review) has been updated to version 0.2.2 and also it now comes with an Ubuntu PPA.

Since our last Foobnix post, there have been many changes to this Linux music player: most parts have been re-written, the interface has been revamped - the info panel being a lot more clear and easy to use now, global hotkeys, proxy support, configurable notification area icon, 100 new radio stations have been added and many other changes.

Foobnix: A Very Interesting New Local And Online Music Player For Linux

Foobnix

Foobnix is a brand new Linux music player designed to be minimal and for both local and online music.

What I instantly liked about it is the online music search feature - Foobnix downloads and plays music from Vkontakte (a Russian website, I for one never heard of it) and in my tests it was able to find any band I could think of (this includes some Romanian bands such as E.m.i.l. which I was sure it wouldn't find - but it did). Also, this service uses port 80 so if you have some ports blocked, it will still work. I'm not sure how legal this is, but it's an amazing feature!

Besides this online music search feature, Foobnix also comes with a lot of radio stations integrated by default (around 3500), Last.fm support, lyrics and a few other minor features.

The interface is also very interesting: the player controls and song progress bar are displayed next to the menu which give a touch of minimalism, uniqueness and appealing visuals to this new audio player.
