Version 0.2.4 of the Fresh Player Plugin was released recently, bringing some important changes, such as accelerated rendering enabled by default, high DPI support and more.

This package no longer works and it shouldn't be used. Install the adobe-flashplugin package from the Ubuntu Partner repository (to enable it, open Software & Updates, on the Other Software tab) instead.
A Pepper Flash Player installer for Chromium browser has been added to the official Ubuntu 14.04 repositories.

Adobe Flash Player Hardware Acceleration on Intel Graphics Cards

libvdpau-va-gl is a VDPAU driver that uses OpenGL under the hood to accelerate drawing and scaling, and VA-API (if available) to accelerate video decoding.

Using it, you can get hardware acceleration on some Intel graphics cards for Mplayer (well, we already have mplayer-vaapi but it hasn't been merged) and even Adobe Flash Player (the Flash content needs to use StageVideo! - YouTube supports it for instance). That means a lot less CPU usage as you'll see below.

According to a blog post by Adobe, after the 11.2 release, Flash Player for Linux will only be available through a new "Pepper" API as a part of Google Chrome, and won't be available as a separate download anymore. However, Adobe will continue to offer security updates for Flash Player 11.2 for Linux for five years.
