System-Wide PulseAudio Equalizer Updated For Ubuntu 16.10, 16.04 And 14.04, Linux Mint 18 And 17

I've uploaded the unofficial system-wide PulseAudio equalizer to main WebUpd8 PPA for Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr.

Update: the equalizer was updated to support Ubuntu 16.10. The PPA now supports Ubuntu 16.10, 16.04, 15.10, 15.04, 14.04 and 12.04, as well as Linux Mint 18 and 17.

The package update comes with a fix for a crash that occurred when no presets were found. The issue that caused audio to be muted as soon as PulseAudio Equalizer was enabled, disabled, or adjusted, was also fixed.

Install Pulseaudio With Built-In System-Wide Equalizer In Ubuntu

About two years ago we had an article about a system-wide Pulseaudio equalizer. This tool is still used today but it's no longer developed and it doesn't work properly for everyone, so many users have been looking for alternatives.

Well, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but Pulseaudio has, for a while, its own built-in system-wide equalizer. However, the Pulseaudio packages available in the official Ubuntu repositories are not build with equalizer support. In Ubuntu 13.04, Pulseaudio is finally build with equalizer support but the actual equalizer is missing from the package for some reason, even though it's available in the source.

So, to make things easier for you, I've create a PPA for Ubuntu with Pulseaudio built with equalizer support and with the actual equalizer enabled.

System-Wide PulseAudio Equalizer Updated, Added 2 Patches

PulseAudio Equalizer

Remember the system-wide PulseAudio Equalizer?

Today I was updating most of the packages in the WebUpd8 PPA that I didn't update yet (not many actually) for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and I've remembered about some patches for PulseAudio Equalizer so I though I'd add them with this update.

Linux system-wide Pulseaudio Equalizer

Back in February we had a post on a system-wide Pulseaudio equalizer which still works great in Ubuntu Karmic and Lucid, but doesn't start in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

The official Pulseaudio System-Wide Equalizer PPA does not provide Maverick packages but in theory you could download and install the Lucid package and run it in Maverick just fine. However, that's not the case because of an icon (yes, just an icon!) which has been renamed in Ubuntu 10.10 which causes the equalizer not to start in Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and you'll get this error:

PulseAudio System Wide Equalizer Now Has An Ubuntu PPA

The system-wide Pulseaudio equalizer developed by psyke83 now has its own Ubuntu Launchpad PPA, for easy installation and updates.

To add the PPA, paste this in a terminal (Karmic and Lucid only!):

Ubuntu or PulseAudio actually really needs a good system wide equalizer. A project which initially begun as a simple script (actually it still is a script) now has become a fully working system wide PulseAudio equalizer. In the recent version, thanks to psyke83 the script comes with:

  • a GUI
  • .deb installer and presets (based on VLC's built-in equalizer) - so it's really easy to install and use by anyone.
  • 15 frequency bands you can adjust to your liking;
  • preamp will boost your equalized volume (as a multiplier value from 1x to 4x);
  • you can save your own presets
