Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr: Unity 7 and Compiz were updated again today, bringing two improvements: support for filtering windows by title in Unity Spread and "live" window resize mode.

Unity Spread (triggered by clicking on an application icon in the Launcher which already has focus and has multiple windows or for all open windows, by pressing SUPER + W) has received support for filtering windows by title.

The search field is not displayed by default in the Unity Spread, but as soon as you start typing, the windows are filtered by their title and a Dash-like search is displayed on top of the spread view:

Below you can watch a quick video recorded by +Marco Trevisan (the man behind this new feature) in which he demoes the new Unity Spread with keyboard filtering support in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr:

The second improvement added to Unity and Compiz today is "live" resizing mode. This improvement is possible thanks to the much improved resize speed introduced by the new Unity GTK3 CSS-themed window decorations.

Until now, resizing windows in Unity would only display a frame with the new window size and the actual resize would only happen after you were done resizing the window:

Old window resize

Starting today, Unity uses "live" resize, meaning that the window is resized in real time.

I didn't post a screenshot with the new resize feature because all you'd see would be a simple window, since the frame is no longer displayed.

These changes should be available for Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr users in a few minutes / hours.
