Daily Ubuntu / Linux news and application reviews.

MyPaint 1.1.0

MyPaint, an open source application for digital painters, has reached version 1.1.0, the new version bringing new blending models, new geometry tools like sequence of lines, curved lines and ellipses, a new color dialog and other interesting changes.

MyPaint is especially designed to create images from scratch and it's not intended to be an image manipulation application (like GIMP), although you can still do many such operations using it. The application features a simple interface, unlimited canvas, extensive brush creation, basic layer support and more and is available for Linux, Windows and Mac OSX.

Install MyPaint in Ubuntu

The latest MyPaint 1.1.0 stable isn't available in any PPA, but you can use the MyPaint Testing PPA, which even though it uses fresh GIT builds, it should be "fairly stable and tested". Add the PPA and install MyPaint in Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10 and 12.04 using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:achadwick/mypaint-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mypaint mypaint-data-hires

There are no MyPaint 1.1.0 binaries for other Linux distributions, Windows or Mac OSX yet, but you can grab the 1.1.0 source or older binaries from the MyPaint downloads page.

Arch Linux users can install the latest MyPaint from GIT via AUR.
