tribler bittorrent client

Tribler, a cross-platform decentralized Bittorrent application, has reached version 6.0.0, getting a redesigned user interface.

According to Wikipedia, Tribler "uses an overlay network for content searching, which makes the program operate independent of external websites and renders it immune to governmental restraint".

Besides the new user interface, the latest Tribler 6.0.0 includes performance improvements for users that recently join a channel and bug fixes.

Tribler comes with an integrated audio and video player so you can use it to almost immediately start watching videos or listening to songs you're downloading, before the download completes, feature which makes this application stand out from the other Linux Bittorrent applications:

Install Tribler in Ubuntu

WebUpd8 provides a PPA to easily install and stay up to date with the latest Tribler releases in Ubuntu. Add the PPA and install Tribler in Ubuntu 12.10, 12.04, 11.10 and 11.04 using the commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/tribler
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tribler

You can also download the deb from the Tribler download page, along with Windows and Mac OSX binaries or the latest source code.

Note: there's a bug and adding a local torrent file through the "Add external .torrent" dialog doesn't work properly. An easy work-around for this is to simply drag and drop the .torrent file onto the Tribler window.
