ubuntu control center (ucc)

Ubuntu Control Center (UCC) is an application inspired by Mandriva Control Center designed to organize most system settings / configurations into a simple and intuitive user interface.

Besides the applications already installed in Ubuntu, UCC also uses some other applications such as: Hardinfo (required for system information), Boot-up Manager (enable / disable applications from running at boot), GuFW (Firewall) and Font-Manager (preview, search, compare and install fonts).

Ubuntu Control Center 0.3 was just released, bringing a few very useful features:

  • New option to test opengl performance with glmark 2008
  • New option for backup data with deja-dup
  • smaller icons

As well as bug fixes.

Because Font Manager and Jstest are not available in the Ubuntu repositories, you need to download them manually. For easy installation, you can simply copy/paste the following commands to download and install Font Manager, Jstest and Ubuntu Control Center:

wget http://font-manager.googlecode.com/files/font-manager_0.5.5-2_i386.deb
wget http://ucc.googlecode.com/files/jstest-gtk_0.1.0-1~getdeb1_i386.deb
wget http://ucc.googlecode.com/files/ucc_03_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt-get install -f

wget http://font-manager.googlecode.com/files/font-manager_0.5.5-2_amd64.deb
wget http://ucc.googlecode.com/files/jstest-gtk_0.1.0-1~getdeb1_amd64.deb
wget http://ucc.googlecode.com/files/ucc_03_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt-get install -f

Or you can manually download the .deb files: Font-Manager | Ubuntu Control Center (UCC) and Jstest

Many thanks to Ubuntutips for the heads up!
