Ubuntu / Linux news and application reviews.

This summer the folks at Automattic asked users what features they'd most like to see in the next version of the popular WordPress blogging client. One of the most popular suggestions was image editing, and now it looks lke the developers are beginning to add image editing capabilities to WordPress.

WPEngineer has posted few screenshots of the image editor which is under development:

wordpress 2.9 image editor

As the image suggests, the image editor is very basic and allows you to crop, rotate and scale images without the use of any plugins. Don't expect support for advanced effects, layers, or other features, at least not right away. But the ability to upload your images before editing them should make blogging a bit faster and easier for many users.

This image editor will be baked into WordPress 2.9 and won't require a plugin.
