Ubuntu / Linux news and application reviews.

DropboxPortable makes the popular file-syncing application thumb-drive friendly, so you can access your files from your thumb drive no matter what computer you're using.

Dropbox allows you to access you files on two computers, but if you're using a computer where you can't install Dropbox permanently, this portable version lets you enjoy the benefits without hassling with Dropbox's web-based access, where the process of editing and syncing files is much more clumsy. The application isn't perfect, and requires an attentive installation process, but if you can get it up and running, it's a great option for getting more from Dropbox.

Download DropBox Portable - Requires .net Framework 3.5 - only works on Windows (both 32 and 64 bit).

And speaking of Dropbox, you may want to check out our "Use Dropbox To Sync Files Between Different Computers and Other Dropbox Uses" and "How To Sync Files Outside Your Dropbox Folder" (which I've used to sync my Firefox profile at home - using Linux, with my work computer - using Windows).

Also, Lifehacker has some great ideas for other Dropbox uses too, including my favourite:

Almost every application has a portable version for use on a thumb drive, but what you may not have known is that your portable applications work perfectly when you add them to your Dropbox folder and synchronize them across all of your machines.
