After seven years, the three founders of the online music social network Last.fm have announced on the official blog of the company that they abandon the project.
Felix Miller (Last.fm CEO), Richard Jones (developer of the Audioscrobbler project) and Martin Stiksel do not explain the reasons for their departure and only express their appreciation to CBS, a company that purchased last.fm for $280 million two years ago.
They leave behind an incredible growth, with 37.3 million unique users per month.
However, despite the positive data, Last.fm suffered a lot of angry criticism from some users when they announced that the last.fm radio will become a paid service. It is unknown yet if the decision was their option or imposed by CBS.
