anti-phishingLately, more and more phishing attempts are invading the internet. Sometimes it's hard to tell if an email you received is indeed from eBay, Amazon or your bank or is a phishing attempt.

Truemark by Iconix is a free services that reduces the risk of email fraud / phishing by confirming the source of the sender. Here is how it works: when an email arrives, Iconix eMail ID uses industry standard technologies to verify the authenticity of the message. Technologies like Domain Keys and Sender ID are used, which are backed by companies such as Cisco, Microsoft and Yahoo!.

In plain English: Truemark adds a small icon next to any corporate or web service's name, but only if it's been checked against a list of domain keys and sender IDs maintained by Iconix. Mouse over the icon and you get more detail; don't see an icon, that email is a fraud / phishing email.

Truemark works in both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox which should cover more almost 90% of the web browser market. The installation of the software will install a Browser Helper Object in Internet Explorer and an add-on in Firefox.
