Twitter seems to have started integrating today the search and trends on the main page, as we said about two weeks ago. This has been spotted on some users' profiles but it is not available for everyone just yet, but it must be on it's way.
The trends tab offers a drop down list of top ten trending topics and the search box allows you to search in real time on any topic. This is how it looks like, if it was enabled for your account:
