As you can see in the video below, this version of Gmail is based on HTML5, the latest update to the W3C standard, which brings some very interesting features to the table. The HTML5 lets a web application use a local database which means it's much faster than before and: it doesn't need an internet connection. Also, HTML5 works on any device capable of HTML5 thus making the developers not have to worry anymore about the platform; now they can create multi-platform applications easily.
