RecordItNow

RecordItNow is an Linux application similar to RecordMyDesktop, but for KDE, designed for recording your desktop. It has more features than qt-recordmydesktop, thus if you are using KDE, you should really give it a try. Another great thing about RecordItNow is that it supports plugins (see below).

Even though up until today I didn't have a single KDE library installed on my computer, I decided to test RecordItNow anyway, since I will most likely install the new KDE 4.3.4 which was released today.

Among the RecordItNow plug-ins are two which you will really like: ffmpeg and mencoder. These two plugins can automatically encode your videos in a desired format. Another interesting plug-in allows you to upload your videos directly to YouTube or blip.tv.

Other options include a timer, manually enter the FPS rate, sound recording, and include mouse clicks with different colors into the video.

To install RecordItNow in Ubuntu Karmic Koala, you can add THIS PPA or directly download the .deb file:

recorditnow_0.5~karmic~ppa1_i386.deb (442.1 KiB)
recorditnow_0.5~karmic~ppa1_amd64.deb (473.3 KiB)

If you use a different Linux distribution, you can download RecordItNow from HERE (rpm, ebuild and source files available).

Special thanks to Adrian @ ubucentrum.net for pointing out this great application.
